CVHS Mission Statement and Fact List The mission of the Cocheco Valley Humane Society is to make possible a better world for all animals by providing shelter, educating the community about humane care and treatment, advocating animal welfare, and promoting the human-animal bond. © Cocheco Valley Humane Society doors first opened to animals and the community in 1984. © The shelter welcomes over 3000 animals every year. © CVHS helps reunite lost pets with their loved ones. © Shelter staff works with foster homes, rescue organizations, and trainers to place special- needs animals. © Humane Education Programs are carried out in public schools and organizations even beyond Strafford County. © CVHS recognizes hundreds of volunteers as the backbone of the shelter, fundraising, and administrative operations. © CVHS is dedicated to putting a stop to animal abuse and neglect, serving in cruelty investigations and representing those who have no voice. © The shelter holds Rabies and Micro-chipping Clinics in cooperation with local veterinarians. © "Humane Perspectives", the society’s newsletter, is published twice a year and distributed to over 7000 members. © The Visiting Companions Therapy Dogs represent the shelter in local convalescent and rehabilitation organizations. © CVHS puts on several community events including this year’s Walk-a-Doggie-thon Pledge Walk for shelter animals, Sunday, June11th, the PAWS Cause Road Race on Friday evening, August 25th, and the Creature Comforts Dessert & Coffee Tasting in February. © Volunteers conduct Offsite Adoption Days in local businesses several weekends every month. © The shelter plays an active role in community spay/neuter programs.
