CVHS Mission Statement and Fact List

The mission of the Cocheco Valley Humane Society is to make possible a better world for all animals by providing shelter, educating the community about humane care and treatment, advocating animal welfare, and promoting the human-animal bond.

Cocheco Valley Humane Society doors first opened to animals and the community in 1984.

The shelter welcomes over 3000 animals every year.

CVHS helps reunite lost pets with their loved ones.

Shelter staff works with foster homes, rescue organizations, and trainers to place special- needs animals.

Humane Education Programs are carried out in public schools and organizations even beyond Strafford County.

CVHS recognizes hundreds of volunteers as the backbone of the shelter, fundraising, and administrative operations.

CVHS is dedicated to putting a stop to animal abuse and neglect, serving in cruelty investigations and representing those who have no voice.

The shelter holds Rabies and Micro-chipping Clinics in cooperation with local veterinarians.

"Humane Perspectives", the societys newsletter, is published twice a year and distributed to over 7000 members.

The Visiting Companions Therapy Dogs represent the shelter in local convalescent and rehabilitation organizations.

CVHS puts on several community events including this years Walk-a-Doggie-thon Pledge Walk for shelter animals, Sunday, June11th, the PAWS Cause Road Race on Friday evening, August 25th, and the Creature Comforts Dessert & Coffee Tasting in February.

Volunteers conduct Offsite Adoption Days in local businesses several weekends every month.
