Hi there! My name is Dexter! I came to Cocheco mid December of 2018 with some medical issues. I had a perineal hernia, which made it hard for me to go potty, and I was a little sad because of it. Thanks to my loyal humans here at the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and the amazing donors, I was a recipient of the Champions fund and got the surgery I needed. I am such a happy boy now that I feel so much better! I get to be a real dog again. I have lots of fun here at the shelter, but I am looking for a family to call my own.
I would prefer the company of humans aged 6 and up, and a home without cats. I love dogs a lot and would love to live with one or even a few. I don’t mind not living with one though, you can always take me for play dates. I’m looking for a home that understands that I am an older dog, but I don’t act like one. I still love to run around a lot and enjoy nice long walks. I also love my toys, and cherish them. Here at the shelter I like to bring my toys out of my kennel with me so I can show them off and share them with these humans here who love me. Sometimes, they even let me take one on a walk with me even though I may get them a little dirty.
I’m also hoping for a home where I can snuggle and be close to my humans. I also sometimes like to try and go off on adventures, so I need a home with either a fence I can’t jump, a safe cable run I can be hooked on to, or always on leash. This way I can get my zoomies and energy out safely when I go to potty or play. I know this is a lot to ask, but my friends here say I’m such a great boy, and deserve a great forever family. Here at Cocheco, there is no time limit for animals, so I don’t mind waiting a little for the right humans to adopt me. Stop by the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and say hi! You won’t regret meeting me!
